St. Maries is a small town in the Idaho Panhandle. It sits about 50 miles southeast of Spokane, Washington. No major freeway passes near the town. This has spared it from the slow death by human over-abundance that has been the fate of so many other beautiful places in our country. It's also caused it to slowly shrink as many of its young people move away for the dubious splendor of urban life. Which is worse? I don't know.
I grew up in St. Maries, and I'd like to show you a bit of the place through the pictures contained on the following pages. You might wonder at the dearth of buildings and the abundance of trees and sky. I guess that's 'cause you can get buildings anywhere. Trees and sky are hard to come by.
